I've stayed there and enjoyed it. You might want to make reservations a couple of weeks ahead, if you plan on doing one of their clubs on New Years Eve.
But you've also got access to New York, New York and Tropicana via the over-street bridges, so you can stay out of the masses if you do want to wander. Dualling Piano bar at NY/NY is lots of fun!
Thanks!

Has anyone ever stayed at the MGM Grand for New Year's?I wish I had that kind of money. I haven't had a vacation in a while.
MGM Grand is great, unless you're from California (in which case the whole "California" theme might bore you).
I stayed in the "West Wing" of the hotel, where it's more quiet and modern. Although those rooms are smaller than the LV standard, it was as advertised... everything looked brand new and I slept very easily.
MGM has a very large casino that's friendly to both big and small budgets. There are lots of dining options: from the no-frills food court next to the monorail station to the ultra swanky Nob Hill. The Cirque show "Ka" plays in the hotel. You'll have direct access to the monorail for Paris/Ballys, Harrahs, Hilton, or the Sahara (in case you want to leave the casino without having to walk the Strip). There's an elevated walkway to New York, New York as well.
With the completion of the three new condo towers, MGM's pool area has been expanded and upgraded as well. Great L.A. style pools (5 big ones, and a "lazy river").
The only thing I didn't like was the lackluster, practically non-existent shopping options. There are a few stores, but it's pretty bare bones compared to the likes of Caesars, Mandalay Bay, or the Venetian.
I stayed at the MGM this past summer. Great service, very friendly %26amp; well organized staff. Wonderful %26amp; comfortable rooms %26amp; great access to other hotels with a "million dollar" view of the strip from the walkover to the New York, New York. Very large %26amp; expansive casino (I heard that the casino was something like 6 acres in size). Loved the resturants %26amp; the lion habitat.
