This question is for people who have stayed in either hotel. Which would you prefer to stay in and why? Which has the better pool area? How are the rooms?Should I stay at the Rio or the MGM Grand in Las Vegas?
Wow these are some of my favorite casinos!! They are both different in a good way!! The Rio I say its more of a calm atmosphere during the day, but at night it picks up!! The rooms are all suites, so they are very spacious. The view is really good!! The pool is unique because they resemble shapes of sea creatures. Overall its one of the best hotels you can stay in Vegas.
I like to think that the MGM its a city within Vegas. The MGM has everything you want Restaurants, Bars, Nightclubs, Venues I mean everything. I like it because you dont have to leave the MGM to have a really good time. The rooms are ok, I must say they are the best beds in Vegas. The pool area is nice. If you want to be in the center of Vegas and experience what Vegas is all about MGM would be my pick!!
But you said which one should you stay. Going back I had a very good time staying at these hotels. But I would stay at the MGM no questions asked. It was in the strip, lots of entertainment, and when I left I really felt I did that MGM did justice!!
MGM definately. i have never been to the rio and i haven't stayed at the MGM but it is right on the strip, at first i thought it wouldn't matter if i stayed on the strip or not but it actually does. you can walk to everything and you can take the deuce everywhere as well. you can take it to the rio too i believe but you have to switch busses and it already takes so long with all of the stops it just isn't worth it. the extra 30 a night it totally and completely worth itShould I stay at the Rio or the MGM Grand in Las Vegas?
They are both very nice hotels, and the Rio has the best buffet around. Mgm has a great pool with a lazy river, and you can find great rates for MGM. Right now they have a promotion out there for $89/night. I think the deciding factor would be that MGM is on the strip and the Rio is not. That makes MGM easily accessible to everything and you can still take advantage of the Rio's buffet. There is a free shuttle that runs from Paris to Rio every half hour.
I like both, but if I had to choose, I'd choose MGM Grand. It's on the top of the strip, large hotel/casino, great pools, rooms are nice, food is good, tons of shows and the lion habitat (free) and you can get around easily to other casinos. The Rio is a great place but, it's off strip and a bit inconvenient unless you have a car. Check out their websites below and have fun.
The Rio is not on the Strip but very near the Palms and Gold Coast/locals. The MGM is in a great location - across from Tropicana, across from NYNY %26amp; Monte Carlo, across from Excalibur/puramid, Luxor/pyramid and Mandalay Bay.
The Rio is all suites while the MGM has rooms and suites; both are very nice.
I've stayed at the MGM Grand and loved it! The room that I stayed in was huge and the pool was amazing! The casino was awesome and the service was outstanding. I loved the location of the MGM and all the amenities that it offered. I would say at the MGM Grand. The hotel rooms are clean and neat and very classy.
The pool is good at Rio better at MGM the rooms are slightly bigger at Rio they call them all suites. I was last at Rio in Feb and I felt the quality had slipped a bit, there are talks about one of the towers being knocked down but I dont know if there is any truth in that. The rooms at MGM as long as they are tower rooms they are great most comftable beds I have ever slept in. The main reason I would choose MGM is the location you are on the Strip you also have a monorail station, whilst there is a shuttle from Rio to the Strip its an inconvience. So my vote is for MGM Grand.
Below is a link tgo the best deal I can see its directly with the hotel no through any agent.
Hope this helps - Simon

Definitely the MGM Grand. I have been to Las Vegas numerous times and have found that it is better than most hotels in its competitive price range. For better rooms stay in the main tower. I also recommend the MGM signature which is right next door. It has lots of class, is very new and is all suite. Also, it is quieter. Starts at $149/nt.
I think any hotel(in your budget..if you have one) would be a great hotel. I went there for my spring break last year and I absolutley loved it. If you are going to play in the casinos all day and all night I really don't think it matters what hotel you stay in,...just as long as you have a bed and a nice room to go back to once u've lost all your money or made a ton of money. LOL You'll appreciate any hotel if you're really tired
I actually just moved out to vegas from Orlando, for an internship with a las vegas hotel group. I would definaly recommend the MGM Grand. There is a ton of stuff to do at the hotel like, Wet Republic, Cirque "KA", and great night life. They are having a great promotion right now. You should definaly check it out. MGM!!!
They are having some GREAT Rate specials right now and the have AWESOME poolS. As in many!
WET Ultra Lounge also just opened ( a pool/lounge)
I think the Rio is a little sub-parr. And their attempt to make it the hip-happening place (with VooDoo and such) failed.
Been to both, like them both, but given the choice I'd definately go with MGM. Unless of course I just felt like being lazy any hanging around the room/pool all day -- then the Rio has bigger rooms with a beter chance of a good view. The Rio buffet is nice too (esp the Seafood Buffet).
I like Rio, but it is not on the strip. All of there rooms are suites.
MGM is also good. I like there rooms, it is on the strip and is located near a lot of other good hotels.
I would recommend the MGM. Better location and better atmosphere. Feels more modern.
Here is a list og MGM discounts:

The Rio has all suites. The Rio has the Around the World Buffet. Check out the World Series of Poker going on all this month and part of next month also.
MGM, location is better, pool %26amp; rooms are probably equal.
I like Harrah's actually.
