Well, green means money, right? LOL
Yes, the WHOLE PROPERTY was designed around "MGM's Theme" of The Emerald City.
The idea was that it would be such a HUGE hotel (largest at the time by a big margin!) that people would find everything they wanted out of Vegas inside and wouldn't want/need to visit the other properties. The property was later modified to make it easier to get in/out of...but originally it was built to discourage foot traffic from the street and make it 'complicated' for people to leave...because they wanted to appeal to a 'better quality' of client....that approach failed with a HUGE loss their first year of operations and they 'redesigned' the valet, frontage, etc to better appeal to EVERYONE instead.
But, I digress.
Green was the Emerald City color, the room's tower had different themes....one tower was wizard of oz with scarecrow, tin man, etc pictures on the wall...another was old MGM movies with Casablanca-style pics everywhere, etc etc...the main entrance under the Golden Lion was actually called the Emerald City Casino and the whole property had a "yellow brick road" style line of carpeting running through it for people to "follow the yellow brick road" in order to get around the place...etc.
It is too costly for them re-do the whole property, they don't need to since green helps them stand out...and it's the color of money for the 'superstitious gamblers' as well. Why is the MGM Grand the color green on the exterior of the hotel towers?
When the hotel casino opened back in the early 90's, it had a Wizard of Oz theme including the green Emerald City building and the Oz casino
Vegas wants to attract visitors and years ago when MGM was built, green was the color chosen for the tinted windows. Why is the MGM Grand the color green on the exterior of the hotel towers?
It's supposed to be the Emerald City from the MGM movie The Wizard of Oz.
