MGM Grand or the Luxor in Vegas?

We are heading to Vegas for a first time, we are down to 2 hotel? which hotel is better of these two? With the MGM Grand we would get the Celebrity Spa suite about 800sq feet, spa, fridge etc. The Luxor would be the one bedroom spa suite, about 800 sq feet, spa, fridge etc. Anyone have preference to either hotel? the price of both rooms are almost the same, so that isn't a factor. Any cons to either one of these hotels? We are looking some casual food, not into fine dining, a nice day at the pool, maybe a decent buffet for breakfast.

Thanks in advance.

Also any construction actively going on at either of these hotels?MGM Grand or the Luxor in Vegas?
Luxor is my choice. MGM is too...Grand. You get lost in the place.

Luxor has a great location, good buffet, cool casino, and nice clubs.

Def. visit Mandalay Bay, PH, and NY, NY.
Luxor is the best choice due to convience of the excalibur and mandalay bay (free tram). A walk across to the NYNY and your right in the same place as MGM. MGM rooms are nice but always a long walk to the strip vs Luxor and the tram. The food choices are increased with the two adjoining hotels and plenty of options for entertainment. You have to try the Burger Bar at mandalay bay. swimming pools are just as nice at luxor compared to MGM but the best pools are at Mandalay Bay. Breakfast buffet are all the same and Excalibur is the best price for your buck.MGM Grand or the Luxor in Vegas?
Go MGM. ive stayed at the mid quality luxor rooms and loved them but MGM is more closer to the center of the Strip and ive seen cheap prices for the luxor very often and never the MGM so that might say 1 thing about which one to choose from. but if you get a good deal the luxor is probably just fine. Tower rooms are the best if you have an option, the ones in the pyramid.
I spent 5 nights at MGM last month, but I have stayed at Luxor. I felt really restricted in terms of the food choices at MGM. There were way too many fru-fru restaurants and one small food court. The only other option was the buffett. Now they had a good deal..eat all three daily meals for $30, but I was extremely unhappy with the food choices on the buffet.
MGM Grand!

I hate the Luxor. The staff are rude, hotel rooms dirty, the place is TOO BIG, pool too far away as is parking......and.....

Two people were murdered just ten rooms down from us when we stayed there two years ago. They had a knife/ beer bottle fight and they both lost. The room was bloody from what I understand.

Legend has it the Luxor is cursed. Read about it online!
I have heard both are decent hotels, I know there is a food court at the Luxor if you are looking for really quick casual foods. But the MGM I think has 4 pools so maybe their pool complex might be better. You can get some pictures from www.tripadvisor.com
Both good hotels, I've stayed on both of them. But I always preferred MGM. The rooms and views of their rooms are awesome. Plus I think they have the best beds and pillows in Vegas. I think MGM has more options when it comes to entertainment. Plus its location is prime. Easy to go to other places. The Luxor is a good hotel, but I always think its a little dead, which is not a bad thing. But the location is not that good. You always going to have to drive or taxi if you want to get around vegas from Luxor. When it comes to dinning, pool the MGM is you best bet. You will feel you got your money's worth when you stay at the MGM Grand, and you will feel that you experienced Vegas at its best!! Enjoy!!
Both are perfectly fine. I've stayed in the Luxor about 3 times now. I've always had a good time there.

MGM will have the better pools, but you're likely to have less of a crowd at Luxor, and I've heard MGM's pools are acres away from the hotel rooms.

Luxors buffet is better than MGM's in my view.

Both have plenty of food options- Luxor has a good court, I don't know that MGM does. Both have something like a small mall attached to them. I get lost in MGM pretty often. Luxor is also directly attached to Excalibur and Mandalay Bay.

As for my specific stays at the Luxor, the rooms are really quiet. I've ALWAYS had a great night's sleep there. They've recently remodelled the casino, so it looks pretty nice. The luxor seems less crowded than the MGM overall, good bad or indifferent. MGM has better choices for shows.

Either way, both are safe bets :)
Either would be a good choice. The Luxor has a younger crowd due to the nightclubs there. MGM has a bit older crowd though not much. A lot of foreign visitors at the MGM as they promote heavy in the asian countries. You will probably find you won't be in your hotel that much to begin with. The Luxor is a bit further from the heart of the strip however at the MGM it takes forever to just get from your hotel room to the strip because it is so large. These could be pros or cons for you. MGM has a gigantic food court also. No major construction going on at either for you to worry about.

Here is a great site for first time visitors to Las Vegas. Full of great and helpful tips.
I would choose MGM, but either would be a good choice.

MGM has a great food court, and the pool area there is great. There are some nice upscale restaurants there as well, although you aren't bound to just eating at your hotel. The MGM is huge though and it can take forever to get to your room. The Monorail makes a stop at MGM, and MGM is close to all the action on the strip.

Luxor is nice, and has a good food court and some nice restaurants as well. It's just a bit farther down the strip, but there is a tram that connects Mandalay, Luxor, and Excalibur. The stop at Excalibur puts you right across the street from MGM. So it's not going to be a huge inconvenience. The crowd is a bit younger at Luxor, but there isn't really an "old" crowd at MGM necessarily.
