I am planning a trip to Las Vegas for my birthday this year and was wanting to stay at MGM Grand. I found out that they have a Lion Exhibit and they claim their lions only work for 6 hours then get transported to a "lion reserve" which is 8.5 acres. I called the hotel and asked multiple people in the lion exhibit what the lion reserve was called. NO ONE could answer my question. They said "It's a private lion reserve by the airport but we don't know they name." Now come on, someone has to know the name of the reserve. I'm wondering if anyone has any information on this or if it's just a bunch of bull? I refuse to stay in a hotel that participates in animal cruelty and this is why I have these concerns. Please do not comment on my animal cruelty opinions because frankly, you won't change them. And no, I am not a part of PETA. Thank you.MGM Grand Las Vegas (Lion Exhibit Question)?
I've been to the MGM Grand and saw the Lion Exhibit. A couple months ago a lion attacked the Trainer (by accident) But I didn't see any Animal Cruelty. I also Researched about the Lion Cage thing when I was going. The Lions get transported out and they take them to a reserve (It's True) At some hours the Lions won't be in the cage and nothing will be it because they are transporting some out and some in. It's actually a cool exhibit and they play with the lions and the lions are all like "Hey Guess I'm a Lion!"
I don't know the name of the reserve either, and I'm not really surprised that the people you talked to couldn't help. The people working around that exhibit are just hired help - they probably don't really know.
But I have seen them trading the lions around before, so I believe their story is probably legit.MGM Grand Las Vegas (Lion Exhibit Question)?
My guess is the story is true. This is an international organization that would treat their animals with the care that is dictated to them.
But what constitutes your idea of lion cruelty = living in the desert on 8.5 acres and transported back and forth from the MGM for a 6 hour shift where you live in a glass case...
Have no idea and they don't want people coming either to see animals or PETA like.
Did you know the MGM in LV employs more than 9,200 people? The casino itself is 380,000 sq ft. It is quite possible that no one knows the name of the reserve the lions are brought to... or even what is going on with these lions... (the exhibit itself is in a "less busy" area of the casino) unless you spoke to the trainers themselves, which I doubt.
The ranch is the Cat House http://www.mgmlions.com/home.html ...not to be confused with what I'm sure is a strip club or brothel of the same name, somewhere out there... they alternate between 30+ lions. The lions are given a bath the day they're brought to the casino and if they act up, they don't get to go. They spend days in between visits to the MGM at the Cat House.
The glass around the habitat is so thick they can't hear the noise or smell anything outside of it and the temperature is controlled to a constant 75 degrees with 50% humidity, which is supposedly most to the lions' liking.
They don't "work" or even perform if that's what you're thinking. I've stopped by that area many, many times and really, all they do is sleep. The trainers bring in toys to play with them, if they happen to be awake, but obviously, its never about making the lions do anything.
The MGM is a really excellent casino, definitely my favorite on the strip. You'd be missing out if you didn't stay there.
